The St. Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority has the responsibility for the disposal of sold waste on the island. to this end, the Authority operates the only two waste disposal facilities, the Deglos Sanitary Landfill in the north and the Vieux-Fort Waste Management Facility in the south. Operating hours of these facilities are as follows: Mondays to Saturdays - 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sundays and Public Holidays - 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m Christmas Day and New Years Day - CLOSED see schedule of waste collection in the respective areas The facilities accept the following waste stream: RESIDENTIAL - Waste generated from residential properties such as private dwelling houses,apartments, guest houses,etc. COMMERCIAL - Waste generated as a result of commercial activities and includes waste from stores, shops, offices, etc. INSTITUTIONAL - Waste generated from institutions such as hospitals, prisons, schools, etc. INDUSTRIAL - Waste generated as a result of a manufacturing activity and includes waste from factories and processing plants. CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION - Waste generated as a result of building construction, renovation, repairs, etc. GREEN WASTE - Waste that is organic in nature and includes trees, leaves, grass, branches, etc. ASBESTOS WASTE - A friable waste material containing asbestos fibre or asbestos dust in a concentration greater than 1% by weight. SHIP WASTE - Waste generated from vessels OTHER WASTE - Pharmaceuticals, fibreglass, biomedical waste.
